Spice Rush

Spice Rush a holding of Saffron Spice is an ultimate destination to rush for all the gourmets which along with Andheri and Powai now also serves at Churchgate. It is a place where they celebrate food and have introduced an exceptional concept wherein they have fused old Indian cuisine with the continental style. Along with the enticing cuisines the cherry on the cake is the seating sequence wherein the ground floor caters quick service to the fast moving youth of Mumbai while the upper floor is tailored for corporates with a cross continental buffet.
Mouth-watering burgers, pastas, hotdogs and sandwiches are served on the ground floor with Horizon burger, Farmhouse burger, Texas hotdog, Northwest samples being the key highlights. The upper floor serves a buffet lunch which includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian salads, soups, starters, main course and deserts while on-menu dinner is served at night. The signature dishes are Lucknowi Gosht Masala, Prawns Malai Curry, Chilly Charcoal Prawns and Dal Bukhara. The Executive Sous Chef for Spice Rush Mr.Sohan Singh Negi introduces Chest Salad which is a dish from his surreptitious basket which is completely lip-smacking. The youth dishes on the ground floor would come in a range of Rs80 to Rs215 while a lunch buffet per head would cost Rs 299.As compared to the upper floor fewer crowd is spotted on the ground floor as the price seems a little high for a college going student but considering the taste the prices are justified. The Mexican burger that I have tasted is absolutely yummy and would cost you Rs129 inclusive of tax.
Spice Rush defines itself with a unique panache which is a combination of scrumptious food, magical ambience and welcoming staff which makes you visit Spice Rush often.

Jai Ganesh Sandwich Corner

Sydenham College, Churchgate I feel has the best canteen with variety of dishes available at nominal rate but still the students are seen rushing out of the college when hungry. This is because of the “Sandwich Corner” that has been serving delicious sandwiches to students those have the taste of a kind. This Sandwich Corner has been here for 12 years now. Be it the scorching heat or the heavy rains students are always seen crowding at this eatery.
The Sandwiches which are available include a wide array from Plain Vegetable Sandwich to Balaji Sandwich. Bread Butter or Bread Butter Jam is served for breakfast. However the USP sandwich is the Vegetable Cheese Chilly Sandwich which has the best stuffing that I have ever tasted. The price of the sandwiches range from Rs12 to Rs30 and I must say its value for money. Plain Vegetable Sandwich costs Rs10 while Vegetable Toast Sandwich and Masala Toast costs Rs15. On the other hand cheese Toast Sandwich is for Rs25 while Balaji and Samosa Sandwiches are for Rs30 each. The taste of the sandwiches is enriched by the orange colored garlic chutney which has a peculiar taste and students are seen craving for it.
Besides this the cheapest item available is the “Slice” which has potato stuffed in slice bread with pepper and salt sprinkled on it. The ultimate dish when your pocket is empty as it costs merely Rs7. This corner opens at morning 8am and shuts at 8pm. And not to forget if you are a regular customer at this corner then you have added benefits like the credit facility and at times a “Slice” free of cost. Intercollegiate Festival

Population First is an NGO situated at Fountain which has been striving hard to create awareness regarding the “Save Girl Child” issue. The youth wing of this NGO is coming up with a grand intercollegiate festival for the very first time. The main motive is to sensitize the youth about the issue. The objective is to have a fiesta by the youth, of the youth and for the youth.

The event would be based on the NGO’s Laadli Campaign that has been in action for quite some time. The event is still in its preliminary stage and the full-fledged working would start in the month of June. The organizing committee would consist of students from more than 30 colleges in order to reach a wider audience. The members of the NGO state that they are lucky to get a great response from the youth and the surprising part is that out of the total number of volunteers who have signed in the majority of them are boys. Mani Bhavan

As Gandhi Jayanti is approaching I felt the need to bring to your notice this interesting place in Gamdevi which manifests life of Mahatma Karamchand Gandhi – Our Father of Nation to whom most of us look up to. Mani Bhavan is that ultimate Gandhi Memorial where one can have a peek-a-boo in Gandhiji’s life and understand history in its simplest form. I assure you that the moment you step inside you will be mesmerized by the display and be carried away in a world where you would assume that things are actually happening in and around you.

As you enter Mani Bhavan straight inside is the Gandhian library where books by and on Gandhiji and Gandhian Thought as well as allied subjects can be found. Besides this it subscribes to 50 periodicals on Peace Research and different social sciences. Then on the first floor is the Picture Gallery which gives an account of Gandhiji in Mani Bhavan and important events in his life. It includes certain significant letters, articles and documents written by and about Gandhiji. One can also find a few replica’s of Gandhiji’s belongings and so also places which have been closely related to Gandhiji like Sabarmati Ashram, his prison cell among others. On the second floor is the Museum where different events on Gandhiji’s life are portrayed with the help of puppets. At the entrance of the Museum is the place where Gandhiji worked and lived which contains his belongings such as the spinning wheel, his aasana, books that he read and his stick.

On the terrace a bronze plaque with an inscription now marks the place of the tent in which Gandhiji was arrested in January, 1932. This is the place where he use to sleep and hold prayers. I strongly suggest at least a one time visit to Mani Bhavan to pay homage to such a great freedom fighter. This is an ultimate source of inspiration for all freedom and peach loving individuals all over the world.

Then the concerned officials along with Saif unveiled a range of high quality and affordable mobile phones. Now there was groove in the mood of people. Later there was a press conference whereby Saif was questioned more about Bollywood, his look and of course Kareena Kapoor his current flame. He said that he chose to endorse this brand as he feels that Wynncom stands for cutting-edge innovation and style. He said he related easily to the brand as it is refreshingly trendy and fast. On a funny note he said he would be competing with Kareena as she is endorsing Sony Ericson which would now compete with Wynncom. For all the Saif Ali Khan fans however the sad news is Saif won’t be following twitter as he says he needs some privacy in his personal life.

After the press conference and peek-a-boo in Saif’s life the event terminated on an enthusiastic note. The concerned authorities of Wynn telecom ltd held their heads high in the air and were optimistic and said that they are sure they will be the top Indian Mobile phones company in years to come. Laadli Day - The Joy Ride

Population First is an Ngo which is striving hard for the “Girl Child” cause for some years now. They have many campaigns under their wings one of which is the Laadli Campaign. The Laadli Campaign successfully completed its 5years on 9th June, 2010. In order to celebrate its success the members of the Ngo planned an ultimate Joy Ride in order to create awareness about the move in a creative manner and so also to dragoon the layman and the tomorrow’s future that is the youth in the loop.

The event after a huge dedicated planning kick-started at 5pm at Gateway of India. The people associated with the Ngo and so also students from n number of colleges flocked at Gateway. Initially the event was highlighted by a dholwala cheerfully playing the dhol in the centre along with a group of students with placards to attract the crowd towards them. Later a group of students performed a street play there based on giving equal opportunities to the girl child and in order to remove all stereotype thoughts. This was followed by a mesmerizing performance by Geetu Hinduja who sung the song “Angel” to celebrate the girl child. Television Actress Dolly Thakur also joined in at Gateway of India. From there everyone got into the Open deck buses which were painted by students of J.J school of art especially for the event. Next the joy ride passed by Colaba and finally moved towards
Marine Drive
. At
Marine Drive
the street play was performed once again. Everyone who came across the rally supported the cause with a thumps up or by shouting the slogan at the loudest possible volume.

From there the joy-ride took off around 6.30 and later went to some of the hotspot areas in South Bombay such as Churchgate, Fashion Street and finally the last stop was V.T. There the students got off the bus and a small march took place with students chanting the slogans “SAVE THE GIRL CHILD” & “CAN YOU SAVE THE GIRL CHILD, YES WE CAN” among others. This was a fun-filled event which was conducted in an innovative manner and left its mark behind. I am sure a great deal of message reached the common man and in and all it was a stupendous fiesta.

Go Green Inititative by a Girgaum Mandal

Environmental issues have been daunting Mumbai at every other occasion. Moreover each year the next day after Ganpati Visarjan we come across the horrifying sight of beaches after the POP mixes with the sea water. Overcoming this issue has been a major concern for every Mumbaikar and acting on the same lines is one such mandal in Girgaum.

Kuldaldeshkar Niwas Sarvajanik Ganehotsav Mandal in Girgaum is all set to implement the “Go Green Initiative” this year.  Right from the Ganesh murti to all the decoration items which will be used this year would be of eco-friendly materials. The eight foot idol which was bought on Saturday to the colony is made up of hard fibre and colouring is done with the help of organic colours. The mandal spent the highest amount on the murti this year as compared to past several years. Another unique action plan they have taken up is that they wouldn’t be immersing the Ganesh murti in water this year. The idea is to take the Ganpati idol to the beach like it has been happening every year and to spill some water at the murti’s feet in order not to violate the tradition that has been followed by everyone for years now. The idol would be kept in the colony premises in a permanent pandal.

People concerned with the idea of “going green” this year state that the main motive to recycle the Ganesh idol is to do a little from their side for the environment and so also reduce the effects of environmental hazards like global warming. I am sure that all the initiators would be truly blessed by Lord Ganesh and so also a message would reach to other mandals who would soon start acting on similar lines.

FACE BOOK reunites me with my “ONCE MET BY CHANCE” friend

Face book is the place I am addicted to and you can find me 24/7. Face book with every passing day brings me more close to it most importantly because I reconnected with a friend of mine who through regular face book chats and comments became my super closest buddies. To cut the long story short I eat, sleep and drink face book.

To begin with my good nah best buddy Ipsita Bhattacharya. I remember it was the Christmas day 25th December, 2008 when I was traveling on a long distance train to Nashik. I remember the boring journey with no books to read or music to listen I noticed a tall, healthy and a Papa’s girl sitting next to me and the kind of talkative person that I was I struck a conversation right there with her. Our conversation which started on a formal note ended up making us realize are company was like house on fire but soon came the time when we had to go our ways and bid a final good bye to each other. We badly wished we could meet again. And Voila! That happened. Around 1 year later I saw a friend request peep on my face book page. With excitement that my number of friends would increase on FB I opened my profile page and this time I was stunned to see that the FB friend request was from my “Train Buddy”.

Since then FB is the ultimate hub for us. She is a HSC appeared student from Podar School (Santa Cruz) and I am pursuing my business management from Sydenham College (Churchgate) so can say we study in two extreme places and so also are so busy with our lives that meeting up or being in touch would have otherwise been difficult but is now made easy thanks to FACE BOOK. Today we claim to be the closest of friends who share almost all news via FB. Our latest pics, our daily ongoings are communicated by us to each other via face book. We feel extremely lucky and are grateful to face book without which we getting in touch again was next to impossible and we would have surely regretted having lost a friend like a gem.

THE CAT CONVERSION

FROM COMMON APTITUDE TEST TO CLASSES ATTENTION SEEKING TEST

So guys lets breakthrough over some serious CAT CHAT. Hey hey I am not talking about the Bollywood Cat fights or our beloved pet’s meow meow. I am talking about something which gives a cold-feet to students, keeps them gasping for breath and doesn’t detach them from ultimate pressure, phobia and tension. This is CAT- COMMON APTITUDE TEST which has students flocking at their respective centres in November every year slogging for years and years to get into the IIM’s. Now that I am giving CAT this year the latest fact horrifying us the “bechaara students” is that CAT’s gone online. This is the CAT candidate’s matchless tragedy.

On the other hand are the classes mentoring students to make it to the IIM’s.
“You come to us & we should take you there” is the claim that every class makes. We are concerned about your future; we have hundred’s of our students who reached The IIM’S. In addition to this we also have the most efficient staff, appropriate mock-tests and whatever that you say we give you that. Something that no other class provides you that is what you get here. We are an angel in disguise for you to take you to the IIM’s. I believe that’s what every class says. And again the “bechaara students” get stuck in another mystery as to which class to choose. Classes are busy promoting themselves and students are busy piling up questions. I hope not to see that the number of classes giving CAT coaching giving tough competition to number of students appearing for CAT.

So can we see the scenario changing in near future? Can the “bechaara students” get a smooth way to pass by? Can the classes do what they are actually supposed to do? Can the CAT CONVERSION get a full stop? Now there just remains a hope that I shall get answers to my questions atleast till the kick start of CAT ‘2011.

FIRST DAY, FIRST SHOW - CAT '10

Well to begin in the JamIstyle let me tell you we are the first one’s to bring to you the unveiling of the most hyped, nerve wracking exam for the year 2010 which is the ultimate aim of thousands of MBA aspirants me being one among them.

Out of personal curiosity as my CAT date nears and to bring to the notice of other such jam readers the on-goings at the CAT centers I had a real good discussion with one such guy who was to appear for CAT on the first day first slot on 27th Oct. Salman Merchant last year B’Com student of Hinduja college gave me his account of the story.

Firstly I asked him as to what made him appear on the first day itself to which he said that he didn’t want his morale to shake by hearing other’s experiences and feel all the more scared about the exam. He told me it being the first day challenges like technical glitches, getting tougher set among others could have possibly occurred. However he said that he had no such experience and on the contrary the paper was really good with verbal section being the easiest and geometry in the quant section being a cakewalk.

I asked him whether it was worthwhile to call the students 2hours before the exam schedule on which he said that the student’s photo and fingerprints are taken which takes time and besides the student can sit there calmly then to reach at the nth moment and panic.
Facilities like drinking water, washrooms, pouch for keeping cell phones and watches and a very co-operative staff are present. The only problem that occurred was that one computer was not getting loaded but the problem was taken care out within just few minutes. Overall on the first day the students were pleased with the paper and the facilities.

So all I have to say is that just keep the 3 D’s going in you that is devotion, dedication and determination. I am sure all the hardwork should pay you big dividends. All the very best for your preparations and rock the CAT.

Sabse Favourite Peon!!!

Ram Sonawane has been the peon for the BMS section of Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics for the past 8 years. He has been a friend, helping hand and support system for all the students who have passed out and so also who are still studying at the college. You ask any Sydenham BMS student one person among the non-teaching staff who they could relate very well to and they have only one name to utter and that is “Ram Mama”.

Me being a student of this college I personally have certain instances whereby without him things would be a real mess. I still remember that our Semester III results were to come out. Everybody was tense about the accounts paper and were shivering with fear of getting a K.T. The BMS staff was in the office calculating the results. Students were loitering in the corridor me being one among them to get a hint about our results.

No one was there to calm us down. But leaving his lunch aside Ram Mama was the person standing outside the staff office and telling everyone “Ghaabru nakaa, result chaangla laagla aahe (Don’t worry, the result has come out good)”. He was the one answering the same question asked by all the students without getting irritated. He was the one calmed each one down and motivating them even though in reality he was completely unaware about the results and was just trying to boost the students.

Rana Siddiqui a last year student of Sydenham BMS says that Ram Mama is like a friend to me. The comfort level I shared with him for the last 2 years was commendable. Be it the admission queries or the lecture timings he was always there to help us out. Be it in the college or outside college he was the one who was always there. And always he did this with a smile on his face. I look up to him for being an angel in disguise to all the students. Ram Mama has a personality which makes the students see an elderly person who wishes them good always and hence every student respects him and doesn’t dare to misbehave with him. When we see him his calm smiling f

ace gives us a lot of positive vibes and difficult situations end up into a mere just another circumstance.
He is not only the king among the BMS students but also well-known among the BCOM students. Any work they have with the BMS section the students directly approach Ram Mama. This is because they believe approaching Mama in itself is half work done because they trust him on getting the work done faster and in a simplified way. I am totally glad to be able to write on such a great persona who has been my Best Friend in Sydenham and this would be a tribute to him for being a splendid person that he is.

All I have to say is that even after passing out from Sydenham in the coming year I shall always remember him and through this I want to say a BIG FAT THANK YOU to him for all his good deeds towards us.

The students of this college promised that the wide campus of Atharva would be transformed into one - stop destination for all the eager travelers. The overall events were classified into Entertainment events, Gaming and Sports. The event kick started on 10th March with the inauguration ceremony and then began the array of events on daily basis.

A very sad thing happened with her. Throughout the year she was all fit and fine and so was she full of excitement on first day of boards as a tiring year was coming to an end. When they approached the doctor it was brought to their notice that she had an intestinal obstruction which needs to be operated that time itself or would cause problems in future.

With all the pipes attached to her body and her degrading health all she wanted was to give her exams and not waste a year.

So looking at her daughter’s desire Aneri’s Mom approached the college and then Maharashtra Board and within 5 minutes after the discussion they were granted permission to provide a writer for Aneri. Finally Shweta Shettigar was the writer for Aneri. Without studying from the hospital Aneri gave her remaining all papers with the help of the writer.

“We are very grateful to Dr. Shridhar Salunke the chair person of Maharashtra Board, Professors Pradeep Saraswat and Gadhwe of Sydenham College and all others who stood by us during this time of difficulty” says Jyoti Rathod Aneri’s mother. “In the time of student difficulty the board is always ready to help you, you only need to approach the right people” is a small advice from Khushbu Aneri’s sister.
“In my bad times everyone stood by me and made me realize that I should be a fighter and hence I am highly grateful to my family, college, Maharashtra board and all my well wishers.” Her friends say that Aneri has always been into curriculars and so also excellent in her academics and now she has done one more extraordinary thing. Bhavika Jain, A Connoisseur of Fashion

Bhavika Jain is a student of NMIMS and a connoisseur of fashion.

1) What is fashion to you?
Fashion to me is all about carrying yourself in the perfect attire and most importantly wearing accessories that complement such an attire. I believe accessories like earrings and necklaces make you look complete and I have always been fond of them and love trying out different varieties in the same.

2) What accessories do you design?
Well to begin with I am not a professional as far as jewellery designing is concerned but I do it as a hobby. I have a strong liking for the same and have been inclined towards accessories since my childhood. As of now I design earrings and necklaces and I believe I am pretty good with the same considering I keep getting loads of orders.

3) How did it all began for you?
Jewellery designing began for me all of a sudden and I am still not aware how I started doing this on such a large scale. Tired of locating necklaces that would complement my dress I decided to try my hand at designing necklaces and voila the outcome was absolutely pleasant. Soon after I was wearing the necklace at college and my friends at NMIMS loved them and placed orders with me. And as time passed I was overloaded with orders.

4) Which necklace of yours you believe is the best of all and a unique creation?
There is this necklace with 10 strings of green steer with a green pendant. It is perfect ethnic wear. This necklace complements any Indian outfit and makes western dresses look different. It is simple yet elegant.

5) What is the difficulty involved in neckpieces designing?
There is no such difficulty involved in necklace designing at least for me as that is where my interest lies. However the only difficult task would be locating the right raw materials. It is the most tiring job to go out in the market in search of the raw materials and that is where the hard work is involved.

6) What is the price range of the necklaces that you sell?
The price of the necklace depends upon the quality, pattern and materials used. The simpler one’s would come in the range of Rs200 and the one’s with heavy pearls and beads would cost around Rs500 and the range goes further to Rs750.

7) What is the latest that you have done?
Well the latest is that I have come up with a new collection of 30 sets. Besides that I have recently have had a photo shoot of my collection. You can view my collection and its price on http://www.picasaweb.google.com/.

8) Have you done any course of jewellery designing?
No I haven’t done any course of jewellery designing. It just came naturally to me. You can say that was a hidden talent of mine that I discovered recently. But yes my mom has been a pillar of support for me and has been guiding me through out.

This sort of bag is in fashion lately as told by Sachi as most of her collection of this type has got sold easily till date. These bags look elegant with saris and kurtis that are mainly with traditional attire. She charges Rs 1500 for such bags.

Besides this other are the normal small jholas that she makes where she uses beads and motis to décor the jholas which are primararily made of bright colored shiny cloth. So also she designs different types of sandals to go with different attires. However the highlight continues to remain the Kalamkari Bag.
